I've been guilty of this for years, but have begun to change my approach - especially in my writing. I began thinking about a composer sitting at the piano creating the melody to a song. Every note is thought out instead of banged out, so that each note contributes to the beauty of the composition. While I'm certainly no composer, this line of thinking has dramatically increased my own enjoyment of writing.
