I especially appreciate your comment about speed being "insidious." I've been guilty of this for years, but have begun to change my approach - especially in my writing. I began thinking about a composer sitting at the piano creating the melody to a song. Every note is thought out instead of banged out, so that each note contributes to the beauty of the composition. While I'm certainly no composer, this line of thinking has dramatically increased my own enjoyment of writing.

All the best,

Dear Mark,

Happy New Year! And thank you so much for sharing the last decade's lessons with us!

Yes, speed can destroy life in more ways than one. Festina lente or 'hurry slowly' should be our motto.

And as so rightly pointed out by Mr. Gallagher, 'Wisdom is that which directs knowledge toward good--toward the creation of value.'

Thanks and regards,

wow. Great stuff here, Mark. Wisdom is SO critical, not just intelligence and focusing on a few things is so hard, but more valuable than trying to focus on many. John Maxwell's law of sacrifice says it so well: To go up, you must give up. Best wishes to you on a prosperous 2010 and next decade!!
